Starting the Fool's Gold Quest at Lifeguard HQ
To initiate this quest, head to the Lifeguard HQ located at The Pier in Santa Monica after finishing the Boardwalking Dead main mission. Look for a named Crusher zombie called Dante wandering near the entrance. Defeating Dante causes him to drop a journal entry and a key, which officially kicks off the mission.
Ransacking Randy's Locker for the First Clue
With Dante's key in hand, head inside the Lifeguard HQ to locate the locker area. Search for Randy's locker, which is situated near the gym equipment inside the facility. Opening this locker yields a second journal entry that reveals details about a buried safe and hints at two key locations needed to assemble the full safe combination.
Tracing Clues Across Santa Monica Pier
The first part of the combination requires traveling to the far end of the Santa Monica Pier near the Ferris Wheel. Head behind the yellow and blue ice cream stand to find a burner phone resting on a wooden bench. Afterward, make your way to the northern edge of the map and search the alleyway behind the shops near the frozen yogurt sign to obtain the final note.
Unlocking the Buried Safe and Claiming the Reward
Once you have collected all the necessary clues, return to the Lifeguard HQ compound. Walk along the exterior perimeter on the sandy side of the station to spot the safe partially buried in the ground. A swarm of zombies will spawn as you approach, so eliminate all hostile threats in the area before interacting with the safe.
